Washington D.C. – Following the unprecedented expulsion of Representatives Justin J. Pearson and Justin Jones from the Tennessee state House, People For the American Way President Svante Myrick released the following statement:
“We condemn the actions of Speaker Cameron Sexton and the Tennessee House of Representatives in the unjustified, antidemocratic expulsion of Representatives Pearson and Jones. People For the American Way will be on the ground in Tennessee, organizing our members as we fight alongside Reps. Jones and Pearson to ensure they regain their seats. We will also activate our membership nationwide in the broader fight against this injustice. Representatives Pearson and Jones embody the best of young, principled, progressive leadership today. The Tennessee GOP might think they can silence them, but they can’t – because these young men are on the right side of the issues and of history.”
