Washington, D.C. – Following reports that an inverted flag, a symbol of election-denial protesters, was flown at the home of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito in January 2021, People For the American Way President Svante Myrick released the following statement:
“The display of the inverted flag at the Alito home is a new low in unethical and blatantly partisan behavior by certain members of the Supreme Court. It’s outrageous that a symbol linked to the ‘Stop the Steal’ election-denial movement would ever appear at the home of a Supreme Court justice, especially as the Court is expected to render decisions directly related to the effort to subvert the 2020 election. Justice Alito must recuse himself immediately from those cases. Anything less will seriously undermine public confidence in the ability of the Court to impartially decide cases that will literally determine the future of our democracy.”
