Washington D.C. – As Senate Democrats move to bring the Supreme Court Recusal, Ethics and Transparency Act to the floor, People For the American Way President Svante Myrick released the following statement:
“There is an ethics crisis at the Supreme Court, and we applaud Senate Democrats for calling attention to the urgent need for reform. Far-right justices are flouting ethics norms with impunity, failing to disclose favors and gifts, displaying partisan symbols at their homes, and refusing to recuse themselves from cases related to the 2020-21 election-denial movement in which their impartiality is clearly in question. Republicans face a challenge: will they support ethics reform at our highest court, or continue to put party over country and turn their backs on the erosion of trust in the Court? It’s up to them, and voters will be watching.”
