Washington, D.C. - Following President Joe Biden’s announcement today of his fourth slate of federal judicial nominations, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:

"The Biden-Harris administration is keeping its promise to the American people to appoint federal judges who will uphold the rights of all Americans, not just the wealthy and powerful. This new slate of nominees includes strong advocates for civil rights, including Myrna Pérez, an exceptional advocate for voting rights. It includes nominees with public defender backgrounds who will bring deep understanding of the justice system’s effects on millions of American families. This slate also includes several nominees of color, at a time when it is critically important to restore our efforts to bring diversity to the federal bench. We applaud the Biden-Harris administration for prioritizing appointments to the federal bench and for the continuing nomination of individuals with a demonstrated commitment to the civil rights of all Americans.”

The nominees are:

  • MYRNA PÉREZ, Nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit (New York, Connecticut, Vermont)
  • SARAH A. L. MERRIAM, Nominated to the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut
  • SARALA VIDYA NAGALA, Nominated to the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut
  • OMAR A. WILLIAMS, Nominated to the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut
  • JIA M. COBB, Nominated to the United States District Court for the District of Columbia
