Washington D.C. – Following Senate confirmations of four more federal judges this week and progress on other key judicial nominations, People For the American Way President Svante Myrick released the following statement:
“The Senate, under the leadership of Senate Majority Leader Schumer and Judiciary Committee Chair Durbin, and President Biden, are doing incredible work for the country and our justice system with the nominations and confirmations of outstanding federal judges. This week we gained two judges in New York, Dale Ho and Nusrat Choudhury, with exceptional records on voting rights and racial equity. In California, we gained Judges Hernán Vera and Casey Pitts, individuals with deep commitments to civil rights and workers’ rights. These confirmations are continuing the progress toward enriching the federal bench with public servants who have spent careers fighting for the rights of everyday Americans. We are also excited about progress on the nominations of Julie Rikelman for the First Circuit and Natasha Merle for the Eastern District of New York, nominees who are dedicated defenders of rights for women and people of color. The White House and Senate leadership are on fire with these confirmations and we look forward to seeing continued progress with the confirmation of yet more exceptional nominees awaiting votes.”
At this point in his presidency, President Biden has had 134 lifetime federal judges confirmed. He is second only to President Bill Clinton for the overall pace of confirmations at this point in a first term.
