Washington D.C. – Following additional progress by the Senate on confirmations of President Biden’s judicial nominees, including the 34th and 35th Black women judges to be confirmed under this administration, People For the American Way President Svante Myrick released the following statement:
“We’re pleased to see the progress the Senate is making on Biden’s judicial nominees, with three more confirmed this week and the stage set for additional confirmations next week. It was especially gratifying to see the confirmations this week of the 34th and 35th Black women judges nominated by this president. To put that in context, more than one third of all Black women federal judges in U.S. history have now been nominated by President Biden. And he has named more Black women to the circuit courts than all of his predecessors combined. We applaud Majority Leader Schumer and Judiciary Committee Chair Durbin for this progress on confirming President Biden’s judicial nominees and we’re urging the Senate to continue this work and confirm all of the President’s remaining judicial nominees as soon as possible. Every confirmation brings us closer to a justice system that upholds rights for all of us, not just the wealthy and powerful.”
