Washington D.C. – Following reports that the College Board is resisting Florida school boards’ challenges to an Advanced Placement course in psychology that covers topics of gender and sexuality, People For the American Way President Svante Myrick released the following statement:

“The College Board’s decision to stand up to the censorship and bigotry promoted by the DeSantis administration shows respect for students and for the integrity of a college-level curriculum that has been in use for 30 years. People For the American Way is proud to have rallied tens of thousands of our activists to urge the College Board to reconsider its decision to censor the African American AP course last year. The College Board acknowledges it has changed its approach this year, which is a victory in the fight against authoritarian threats to the freedom to learn.  If the state of Florida refuses to offer the course, it will be solely to blame for the serious disadvantage this creates for Florida students seeking higher education.”
