Washington, D.C.– Following this week’s release of a preliminary analysis from the Presidential Commission on SCOTUS, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:

“This analysis from the president’s commission on the Supreme Court comes at a time when the need for reform could not be more obvious. One striking example of this urgency is the Court’s ‘shadow docket’ action allowing a clearly unconstitutional abortion ban to go into effect in Texas. While the analysis shows diligence and thoroughness, the commission still has a long way to go. Reforms including term limits, Court expansion, and greater transparency need full and serious consideration sooner rather than later. The current Court has been captured by the Far Right and is running roughshod over Americans’ rights, and it won’t stop unless major reform takes place.”
