Washington, DC – Following Senate confirmations this week, of more federal judges nominated by the Biden-Harris administration, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:
“The Senate’s confirmations this week of three more lifetime federal judges represent the Biden-Harris administration’s best efforts to name judges to our federal courts who have a demonstrated commitment to equal justice for all and who bring to the courts the personal and professional diversity that serves all Americans well. We now have 63 lifetime judges, which puts President Biden on the fastest pace of judicial confirmations since JFK. Judges Jennifer L. Rochon, confirmed to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, has spent years serving the Girl Scouts of America. Judge Suzanne Sykes, confirmed to the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, will be the first-ever Native American federal judge for her state and the first Navaho in any state. Judge Trina Thompson, confirmed to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, is a Black woman with an extensive record of service as a public defender and criminal defense lawyer before becoming a state court judge. We applaud Senators Chuck Schumer and Dick Durbin for prioritizing the confirmation of these judges who are helping to build a diverse federal bench of qualified, fair-minded judges committed to protecting the civil and human rights of all people."
