Washington, D.C. – Following Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-GA14) tweet this week, in which she inexcusably called Senators Mitt Romney (R-UT), Susan Collins (R-ME) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) “pro-pedophile” following their indication they would vote to confirm Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:

“Twitter got it half right when it permanently suspended Marjorie Taylor Greene’s personal account, but it only forced her to move her despicable posts to her official Congressional account. After this newest reprehensible post by Rep. Greene, it’s time for Twitter to take the next step and suspend her official account as well.  Greene’s abusive behavior has gone on too long and allowing it to continue risks normalizing it further. It’s become clear that the election-year proliferation of dangerous lies, conspiracy theories and disgusting personal smears online is underway, and that the Far Right is even turning these attacks against members of its own party. It’s the responsibility of Twitter and other social media companies to be vigilant about not letting their platforms be used to stoke violence and radicalization.”
