Washington, DC— In response to today’s House vote on Resolution 503 to establish a select committee to investigate the January 6th insurrection, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:
“Today’s House vote to establish a select committee to investigate the January 6 insurrection is encouraging, especially after months of stalling and flat-out refusals by Republicans to support a bipartisan commission. Americans will finally get the truth about the events leading up to that day and what happened on that day itself. As we approach the six-month anniversary of the attack, we are confident that our nation will have a comprehensive explanation for the incitement and encouragement that led a violent mob to threaten the Vice President and members of Congress and leave five people dead; we will also know how insurrectionists were allowed to breach the nation’s Capitol and who exactly --at the highest levels-- was involved. We look forward to seeing what this select committee finds to inform our efforts to prevent such events from occurring again.”
