Washington, D.C. - As the House prepares to convene its Select Committee to investigate the January 6 insurrection, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:
“The House, under the leadership of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, is undertaking one of the most consequential tasks in American history: investigating the violent attempt to overthrow the results of our free and fair presidential election. We need to know who planned, funded, participated in and incited the January 6 insurrection, up to and including officials at the highest levels. We will be listening closely to Tuesday’s testimony from Capitol Police officers whose lives were on the line that day, especially since many unanswered questions remain about law enforcement’s role and leadership. This committee must go wherever the facts lead, no matter how powerful the people or entities that may ultimately be implicated. Anything less will only encourage more violence in the future.”
