“Together, we will change the course of history.”

Washington, D.C. Today, Ben Jealous, former NAACP president and former Maryland gubernatorial candidate, officially starts his new role as president at People For the American Way and People For the American Way Foundation. He brings to this role a keen interest in advancing PFAW’s mission of advancing freedom, opportunity, justice and equality for all.

In a message to PFAW members, he expressed his vision to build on the tradition that Barbara Jordan, Dolores Huerta, and Norman Lear have created over the years, continuing PFAW’s efforts as a multiracial, multigenerational organizing force for change.

"From the beginning, we have stood together against those who would make America smaller than its dreams. The greatest threat to our success this fall is our own despair. Let us – this great, multiracial, multigenerational organization of more than a million activists and organizers – rise up together, claim our victories in advance, and proclaim in the words of the great poet-activist Langston Hughes: 'America will be!'” said Jealous.
