The Senate today voted to continue a filibuster on the Paycheck Fairness Act, a measure meant to help prevent sex-based wage discrimination. The measure came two votes short of the 60 needed for cloture.

Michael B. Keegan, President of People For the American Way, issued the following statement:

“It’s inexcusable that the average woman in the United States is still paid only 77 cents to every dollar earned by men for the same work. Wage discrimination is real, and it can be prevented. The Senate had the opportunity today to give women the tools necessary to spot and prevent wage discrimination, and to hold employers who discriminate accountable for their actions. When millions of working Americans are struggling to make ends meet, it is no time for political infighting and government gridlock.”
