Washington D.C.— In response to the breaking news about shots fired during a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, People For the American Way President Svante Myrick released the following statement:
“We are horrified by the news of the fatal shooting today during a political rally for former president Trump, in which Trump was injured. Our thoughts are with the former president, the rally participants and their families and the Butler community. Violence has no room in political discourse, and it is not the American Way. No matter what our political beliefs may be, all Americans have the right to fully participate in the political process and support their candidates of choice, without fear of threats of violence or intimidation of any kind. We urge calm in this moment and call on all sides to condemn and reject violence.”
