U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur, D-Toledo, has been endorsed in her reelection campaign for the U.S. House of Representatives by the progressive advocacy organization People for the American Way.

"Marcy is the longest serving woman in the House of Representatives, and her record proves her commitment to progressive values," People For the American Way President Svante Myrick said in a news release. "She’s leveraged her experience and seniority to fight for jobs, economic growth, infrastructure improvement and much more, and we know she’ll continue to be a force for good in the House."

Kaptur is facing Republican challenger Derek Merrin in November. In its endorsement announcement, People For the American Way said "retaking control of the House will be essential to passing much-needed legislation around voting rights, LGBTQ rights, abortion access, Supreme Court reform and many other vital issues."

People For the American Way is a national progressive advocacy organization "that inspires and mobilizes Americans to defend freedom, justice and democracy from those who threaten to take them away," it said in the endorsement. It works "toward a vision of a vibrant America where basic rights and freedoms are upheld for all, not just the wealthy and the powerful."
