As part of its #VoteTheCourts2020 campaign, PFAW is asking Democratic presidential candidates to discuss their plans to nominate fair-minded constitutionalists to the bench.
During campaign stops in Nevada in late March and April, New Age author and spiritual leader Marianne Williamson and former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julián Castro were asked about which qualities they would look for in judicial nominees.
Williamson responded, “I would use every possible opportunity and every possible appointment…to bring back the people whose consciousness is in alignment with the idea that ‘all men are created equal’ and believe that this is a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.”
Castro said, “Judges that want to be appointed need to understand the Constitution as it relates to today, not only some sense of what it meant 200 years ago and what society was like, but for today’s challenges.”
We expect every Democratic candidate to say clearly that they would nominate fair-minded constitutionalists. Want to help? Tweet us using the hashtag #VoteTheCourts2020 when you see or hear candidates emphasize the courts on their websites, social media, and in their speeches.
