Although voting in this year’s general election has already started, Mitch McConnell plans to help President Trump quickly install a replacement for Ruth Bader Ginsburg. His 180-degree turnaround from 2016—when eight months in advance was too close to the election for the Senate to consider an Obama nominee to the Supreme Court—presents a stark contrast to Justice Ginsburg’s celebrated fidelity to justice, equality, fairness, and the rule of law.
To maintain the fiction of being principled, McConnell now claims a different rule applies when the Senate and White House are held by the same party.
Huh?
You might as well say the reason for changing the rule is it’s Tuesday, or it’s dark outside. He’s making it up as he goes along.
If McConnell’s explanation has your bullshit alarm ringing, congratulations: You are not the idiot the Senate Majority Leader clearly thinks you are. We will soon learn whether Joni Ernst, Cory Gardner, and other Senate Republicans have a similarly low view of their constituents’ intelligence and disregard for the rule of law.
