Brett Talley was nominated by Trump for a lifetime seat on the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama in September. At the time, his three short years of limited experience as a practicing attorney who has never tried a case coupled with his extreme public statements raised serious concerns about the nomination. Since then, more troubling comments have been uncovered, and it came out that he had failed to disclose potential conflict of interests given his connections to the Trump White House.
Watch these recent video clips and see what people are saying about this extreme and extremely unqualified nominee—and then take action to stop him!
1. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert: A Trump-Nominated Judge Has Never Tried A Case
On “The Late Show,” Stephen Colbert points out that Trump has already appointed 13 mostly white male judges, with another 46 awaiting confirmation—more than twice as many as Obama at this point in his presidency. And “they’re not just white men,” says Colbert. “Some of them happen to be white men who are unqualified and insane.” In the three-minute clip, Colbert shares some not-so-fun facts about Trump’s scary judicial nominee Brett Talley.
2. Morning Joe: With Judicial Pick Talley, Trump WH Continues Move Away From Diversity
In this four-minute segment, the “Morning Joe” panel skewers Trump and the Republicans for the damage they are doing to our courts by nominating and pushing through unqualified judges like Brett Talley. "[The ABA] says this person is unqualified... How do you get to the federal bench?” asks former RNC Chairman Michael Steele. “Oh! Your wife works in the White House Counsel's office.”
3. The Opposition with Jordan Klepper: Alt-Diversity in the Courtroom
On Comedy Central’s tongue-in-cheek “The Opposition,” Niccole Thurman calls for a new kind of “diversity” on our courts—a diversity of ideas and levels of experience. For example: “Brett Talley isn’t just a white guy with no practical law experience. He’s also an author of horror novels.”

5. All In with Chris Hayes: Trump Judicial Nominee Didn’t Disclose His Wife is a Top White House Lawyer
Brett Talley’s lack of transparency during the confirmation process has been staggering. In a segment on “All In,” Chris Hayes highlights that Talley failed to disclose that he is married to a White House lawyer—a lawyer, Ann Donaldson, who has also been interviewed as part of Mueller’s investigation into whether Trump obstructed justice. Just one day before that was unveiled, the media discovered a range of extreme comments that he has left on sports websites under a pseudonym.
6. MSNBC Live with Stephanie Ruhle: Controversial Trump Judicial Pick Married to White House Lawyer
In official Congressional documents that asked for a list of family members likely to present potential conflicts of interest, Brett Talley did not list anybody, even though his wife is a top White House lawyer. On “MSNBC Live with Stephanie Ruhle,” Ruhle goes deep into Talley’s failure to disclose the conflict and his overall troubling lack of experience.
