The National Rifle Association has gone all in in the effort to elect Donald Trump president, airing a whopping 16 percent of all the television ads in support of the GOP candidate this cycle. In “
">an urgent message” to the NRA’s members that the group circulated on Friday, the NRA’s CEO, Wayne LaPierre, sounded almost like Trump himself as he painted a dystopian picture of a miserable America created by President Obama and perpetuated by Hillary Clinton, urging NRA members to vote against Clinton on November 8.
“When I said Barack Obama would come for our guns and do everything in his power to sabotage the Second Amendment, they savaged me, they called me a liar,” LaPierre says in the video message. “But every one of those predictions came true.”
He then claims, absurdly, that Obama has been more aggressive against American gun owners than he has been against ISIS and that the president has “refused to kill” terrorists: “While radical Islamic terrorists shot, bombed and butchered innocent Americans on our own soil, Barack Obama attacked you harder than he attacked ISIS. He used the terrorism his own weaknesses and failures made possible to try to gut your right to shoot back at the terrorists he refused to kill. Thank God we stopped him in his tracks.”
LaPierre goes on to attack Obama’s two successful Supreme Court nominees, who he says are “easily among the worst justices to ever sit on that bench” and “will come after our guns for the rest of their lives.”
“Eight years: that’s all it took for our country to completely unravel,” he declares.
Clinton, he alleges, “will launch an all-out war on the Second Amendment,” “come for your guns” and continue the “creation of a new, post-freedom American that you won’t even recognize.”
