Before mentioning the mass shooting at a Florida high school during his long and rambling speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) this morning, President Trump told the crowd to get out and vote for Republicans in the 2018 elections because otherwise Democrats will “take away your Second Amendment.”
“Don’t get complacent, because if they get in, they will repeal the tax cuts, they will put judges in you wouldn’t believe, they’ll take away your Second Amendment, which we will never allow to happen, they’ll take away your Second Amendment,” Trump said to a standing ovation.
He then asked the audience to choose whether if they had to choose they would keep his tax cuts or the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment got the most cheers.
Trump then went on to claim, in the third person, that as president he has “fulfilled more promises than he made,” before complaining about the “crooked media” in the 2016 election and the “crooked candidate” he was running against.
The crowd broke into a chant of “Lock her up!”
“Boy, have they committed a lot of atrocities, when you look, have they done things that are wrong,” Trump said.

Later in the speech, Trump addressed the Florida shooting, and after assuring the crowd how much he loves the NRA, suggested strengthening background checks and making schools “hardened” sites.
