While most people remember Donald Trump’s Wednesday rally in Pensacola, Florida, for a hypnotic performance by the “Freedom Kids” dance troupe, one aspect that should not be overlooked was the invocation delivered by Carl Gallups, an extremist End Times pastor who believes the U.S. is on the verge of annihilation.
While the invocation itself was uncontroversial, the choice of Gallups is a curious one, particularly since Trump has largely avoided social issues in his campaign.
Gallups, like Trump, is a birther who loves Vladimir Putin, and also shares his disdain for Common Core, although Gallups thinks that Common Core will be used to teach pre-schoolers “the mechanics of homosexual sex.”
Gallups has also claimed that the U.S. “is inviting end of days judgment upon itself” because it “celebrates, promotes and legalizes homosexual marriage.” He believes that such judgment “has already begun” because of America’s stances on marriage equality and abortion rights, linking the two issues to turmoil in the stock market.
Gay marriage, Gallups claims, will allow gay people to “enslave” Christians and “may prove to be the final death knell of divine judgment upon our once great nation,” possibly leading to the “total destruction” of society.
Gallups thinks that schools that teach about gay people in history should also teach “the history of the major civilizations that ultimately met their demise concurrent with the rise of rampant sexual promiscuity and deviancy within those cultures, especially embracing and accepting homosexuality.” He calls homosexuality “one of the most dangerous sexual lifestyles on the planet.”
He believes that the Supreme Court’s marriage equality decision is transforming America into Nazi Germany and North Korea and may lead to a ban on religion.
But then again, Trump himself has declared that America is a “hellhole” that is “going down fast” — but of course, for different reasons.
