Televangelist and "Holy Laughter" preacher Rodney Howard-Browne is once again holding a week-long revival meeting in Washington, D.C., called "Celebrate America," featuring Religious Right activists and Republican members of Congress.
Rep. Trent Franks spoke last night through an interpreter to a largely Hispanic audience, begging them to elect more Christians to office because the purpose of the Constitution and the United States is to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world.
"If America is to be saved, she will be saved by those who have been saved," the Arizona Republican said. "I'm crying out to you the best way I know how as someone who is in the seat of power in the United States Congress, please send more people that hold Christ in their hearts to the Congress."
Franks went on to say that the Supreme Court ruling legalizing gay marriage nationwide "was lost years earlier when we elected presidents that would appoint people who had no respect for the United States Constitution."
"Today, there are four people on the United States Supreme Court that revere the Constitution," he said. "There are four the revile it and there's one that doesn't know his name half of the time."
The Constitution now hangs by a thread, Franks warned, and if it falls "the greatest Gospel outreach the world has ever known will be gone" and that is why the audience must "do everything that you possibly can to make sure that the leaders in Washington are leaders that honor God."
