Former congressman and failed U.S. Senate candidate Todd Akin said yesterday that he believes God shielded him against liberal attempts to “make fun” of him during the fallout of remarks he made about women’s bodies and “legitimate rape.”
In an interview with Janet Mefferd, Akin once again suggested that his comments about “legitimate rape” were part of a fight against spiritual evil.
“It was just a very, very intense time, yet in all of those things, I felt the Lord’s protection and His comfort, and that’s something that people who don’t know the Lord can’t understand that,” he said.
He also accused Democrats of employing “Saul Alinsky-techniques” to “destroy” and “make fun” of him because he was “standing up for truth and they don’t like that.”
