Rejecting the claims of Religious Right activists who warned that Houston’s proposed Equal Rights Ordinance was a demonic attempt to aid sexual predators, the Houston City Council voted 11-6 this week to approve the LGBT-inclusive nondiscrimination measure.
In an appearance on “The Janet Mefferd Show" yesterday, Jonathan Saenz of the group Texas Values reacted to the city council’s decision by declaring that the ordinance presented a “public safety risk.” Saenz alleged that it would empower “sexual predators” to “terrorize women and children,” suggesting that “other cities” experienced such incidents after passing legal protections for the transgender community.
Despite his claims, there is no evidence linking transgender protections to sex crimes.
