Vision America's Rick Scarborough spoke at a "Prayer For Our Warriors Conference" at Harvest Christian Fellowship in Arizona recently, where he reiterated his view that AIDS is God's judgment for sin and declared that we'd probably be able to find a cure for the disease if this nation would simply repent for tolerating homosexuality.
Earlier in his remarks, Scarborough complained that we at People For the American Way regularly monitor his speeches and blasted our founder, Normal Lear, for having established an organization that has supposedly "subverted the truth" by regularly attacking "those of us who stand for God and country without apology."
Apparently, in Scarborough's world, standing for God and country takes the form of declaring that AIDS "was God's judgment on a sinful generation."
"I believe that God would probably give us the cure for AIDS today," he stated, "if we put our foot down and said, 'We not longer tolerate this, we're not going to fund it with healthcare, we're going to hold you accountable.' I believe if we started repenting across this country, some sharp probably Christian or Jewish researcher would find the AIDS cure."
Scarborough also noted that since his comments were probably being monitored by PFAW, this statement would most likely be the only thing that we would report on from his speech.
And guess what?
He was absolutely right:
