The Southern Evangelical Seminary's Richard Land appeared on TheDove TV's "Focus Today" program earlier this week, where he complained that criticizing right-wing leaders for remaining on President Trump's evangelical advisory council in the wake of the president's comments regarding the violence in Charlottesville is "sort of a form of McCarthyism."
After laughably claiming that he would have gladly served as a faith adviser to Hillary Clinton, had she asked, Land said that it would be "irresponsible" to turn his back on Trump simply because he may not have agreed with his response to Charlottesville.
"It's our responsibility to give the president and his advisers and his administration advice and counsel," he said. "It's their responsibility whether they take it or not; they're the ones that were elected by the American people, not us."
"For those who say, 'If you're on this advisory council, then you're affirming and you're supporting everything that President Trump does,' that's faulty logic," Land added. "It's really sort of a form of McCarthyism where you're guilty by association. I keep expecting one of the press people to ask me, 'Are you now or have you ever been a supporter of the Trump administration.'"
