Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming argued this morning that proponents of the Green New Deal, in order to avoid being hypocrites, should give up their cell phones, SUVs, and stop traveling via plane.
Cheney joined Breitbart News’ daily morning program on Sirius XM Patriot today to continue her media tour slamming Democrats for amending a resolution against anti-Semitism to include other types of hate. In the latter half of the interview, Cheney went on to rail against the Democratic Party’s supposed open-arms embrace of socialism (which is not a thing). During her appearance, she railed against proponents of the “Green New Deal” legislation by falsely alleging that supporters of the Green New Deal want to outlaw all kinds of modern conveniences in American life.
“I think it’d be great if [Rep.] Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her cohorts who are out there advocating the Green New Deal—you know, if they’re going to be honest and true to their beliefs, they ought to stop using all the tools that have been invented by American ingenuity and the free enterprise system for their revolution,” Cheney said. “They ought to stop using their phones, for example.”
Host and Breitbart News Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow asked, “So that means no more SUVs?”
“Yeah, right, no SUVs. No planes, definitely no planes,” Cheney said.
Cheney went on to recount a February 12, 2019, hearing of the House Energy and Mineral Resources Committee in which she presented a dystopian portrait of the Green New Deal in which hospitals wouldn’t be able to air-lift patients for treatment, for example. Her characterization of the Green New Deal at that hearing earned her a swift debunking from Washington Post fact checkers.
The Green New Deal, and other acts of climate regulation propositions, seeks to curb global warming by addressing systemic causes of greenhouse emissions. The Guardian reports that “100 companies have been the source of more than 70% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions since 1988.”
