Last week, we noted that anti-gay activists were organizing a rally in support of North Carolina's recently passed anti-LGBT law. The rally took place yesterday and featured members of the state legislature and various right-wing activists, including Bishop Patrick Wooden of the Upper Room Church of God in Christ in Raleigh:
Wooden is an almost cartoonishly vehement anti-gay activist who has asserted that by the time gay men reach middle age, they "have to wear a diaper or a butt plug just to be able to contain their bowels" because of "what happens to the male anus":
When criticized for those statements, Wooden refused to apologize and, in fact, doubled down by claiming that gay men regularly shove objects such as cellphones, baseball bats and animals up their anuses and that he personally knows a gay person who "literally died in diapers” because he "literally lost control of himself":
Anti-LGBT activists Mark Creech, Ron Baity and David and Jason Benham also spoke at the rally.
