Even as many Republican officeholders have abandoned their support for Donald Trump, his Religious Right backers like Jerry Falwell Jr. and Tony Perkins are standing by their man.
The late Phyllis Schlafly was one of Trump’s earliest and most ardent Religious Right supporters—she even faced a revolt this year from other Eagle Forum leaders who were backing Ted Cruz, including Schlafly’s own daughter. But it looks like two of her sons, John and Andy, are carrying their mother’s torch.
In a column distributed to Eagle Forum supporters this week, the Schlafly boys praised Trump’s recent “global conspiracy” speech in which he accused Hillary Clinton of meeting in secret with international banks to plot the destruction of U.S. sovereignty. “Trump reminded his supporters that they are part of a worldwide uprising against the globalist elite,” they wrote.
“Regardless of the election outcome,” wrote John and Andy, “there has never been a speech like it in American history.”
