Americans For Truth About Homosexuality president Peter LaBarbera weighed in yesterday on the ongoing controversy among anti-choice activists as to whether groups focusing on criminalizing abortion should also campaign against LGBT rights.
In an interview with Janet Mefferd, LaBarbera insisted that opponents of abortion rights should join his anti-LGBT crusade, pointing to transgender people who undergo sex reassignment surgery as an issue that the anti-choice movement should be concerned about because it involves “breasts.”
LaBarbera should rest easy, as the majority of anti-choice groups share the anti-LGBT views that predominate the Religious Right.
Mefferd: Why do you think it’s so essential for pro-lifers to go hand and hand with the marriage issue and the biblical sexuality issue as well as the sanctity of human life?
LaBarbera: Well first of all, the issues are related. Marriage, sex between a man and a woman in a healthy marriage, that produces life. There are so many life issues here. We’re talking about diseases that result from immoral behavior, unnatural behavior. We see the transgender movement where we have women cutting off their healthy breasts to be like the men they think they are, if that isn’t a life issue — breasts, you know, feeding infants — these are all related. It doesn’t help the pro-life movement to say we’re going to be narrowly focused because we see that that’s a controversial issue and it’s going to hurt our cause. Look, God is big enough, trust God to stand for truth on all of God’s truth.
