In a speech today at the National Rifle Association’s Leadership Forum in Atlanta, Wayne LaPierre warned that “leftist zealots” are trying to “destroy President Trump.” These leftists, he said, have already taken over the media and the school system, which they have used to attack American values, freedom and the truth.
“If we don’t stand up to them—and I mean now—an entire generation of Americans could be lost, and our nation along with them,” he said. “It’s up to us to speak up against the three most dangerous voices in America: academic elites, political elites, and media elites. These are America’s greatest domestic threats.”
LaPierre, the executive vice president of the gun group, said that these groups spread lies and mistruths to “hijack our youth” and indoctrinate them in anti-Americanism.
The popularity of Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., among young people, he said, was the result of this supposed brainwashing: “Bernie Sanders was not a ‘movement,’ as a fawning media called his campaign. Bernie is a political predator of young voters who were lied to by school teachers and college professors.”
According to LaPierre, journalists pushed Sanders’ “message of big government socialism,” a message first promoted to young people by teachers and professors.
“When did the media stop being journalists and start becoming PR flacks for the destruction of our country?” he asked.
