National Organization for Marriage’s religious liaison William Owens emailed members of the Coalition of African-American Pastors last week hailing Russia’s law banning gay “propaganda” and chiding President Obama for speaking out against the law. He accused the Obama administration of trying “to force its immorality, depravity and sin on another nation,” while warning that “the free fall of our nation” and “the overall decline” of America represent “a ‘heavenly verdict’ against this nation.”
“I applaud the Russians for taking a stand for children!” Owens writes, saying that “this response from the homosexual community is absurd.” “[I]t appears that the leaders of Russia are attempting to stem the tide of moral decline in ‘their’ country,” he continues.
When I heard the news report regarding Russia’s new law prohibiting the propagating of homosexuality I was intrigued but the outcry that followed from the American news media, the LGBT community, and gay rights advocates was very disturbing. Many of these organizations threatened to push for a ‘boycott’ of the U.S. Olympics, while others threatened to put pressure on our legislature, and congressional representatives to compel Russia [a sovereign nation] into backing away from what ‘they’ consider a ‘discriminatory’ law. I believe that this is just another one of their ploys to cover their real intent, which is to force the acceptance of a lifestyle that is a clear violation of American values and moral law.
Friend, this response from the homosexual community is absurd. Since when does America have the right to force its immorality, depravity, and sin on another nation? We are currently witnessing the free fall of our nation. Over the past five years, we’ve moved from a super power position to a nation that is perceived to be weak and contemptible. This overall decline of our nation has proven to be an unequivocal manifestation of a ‘heavenly verdict’ against the nation.

With the battle for the family waging across this nation, instead of condemning a sovereign nation for its laws we need to be changing ours. The family unit is under attack and we must stand against those who want to redefine and destroy it. The family is the foundation of a society and the glue that holds it together. I applaud the Russians for taking a stand for children!
And though I cannot honestly speak to the morality of Russia or its leaders, I can say that it appears that the leaders of Russia are attempting to stem the tide of moral decline in ‘their’ country. And I do acknowledge that things are not ideal there, but it seems to me that we need to take the beam out of our own eye before we are in a position to take the beam out of theirs! America is not in a position to judge or impose our so-called ‘morality’ on anyone, let alone a sovereign nation!
My friend it is time to turn back to God, and it is time to get our [spiritual] houses in order. No matter where you are spiritually, if you are reading our newsletters, bells and whistles must be going off by now. I am very concerned for our nation and as a minister of the Gospel; I must declare to you that our nation is in trouble. We must pray without ceasing for our nation and we ask for your support to help us stay in the fight.
