Right-wing commentator Todd Starnes kicked off his brand new Fox News Radio show on Wednesday with an interview with former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee in which Huckabee declared that during the Trump presidency “the press has become the predator.”
Responding to commentator Ana Navarro’s assertion that President Trump’s tweet of a video of a person with a CNN logo over their head being punched out “is going to get someone killed in the media,” Huckabee said that Navarro had it all backwards.
“But the issue in America is not that the press is under assault, the issue is that the press has become the predator,” he said. “The press has decided to target the president of the United States, elected by the people and to go after him in a way that is unprecedented in our history. If they want to be taken seriously, they’ll have to somehow perform some serious journalism. Truth is, they don’t perform serious journalism, they’re all editorial all the time and they want to be taken seriously as a news organization. Sorry, can’t happen.”
Huckabee added that the media is applying a “double standard” by thinking it’s okay for CNN to note that his daughter, Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, lied about the president’s statements while being upset about the bizarre, personal Twitter rant Trump launched against MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski.
“Well, as a dad I’m not all that happy with CNN going after a woman,” he said. “You know, somehow if Donald Trump says something about Mika Brzezinski...somehow that’s fine, or it’s not fine, but if CNN attacks my daughter, who last time I checked is also a woman with three children, that’s perfectly okay, she’s fair game. I just don’t understand the double standard.”
