Religious Right activist Mary Colbert appeared on "The Jim Bakker Show" recently, where she claimed that her prayer efforts were responsible for Martha McSally being appointed to the U.S. Senate from Arizona.
Last year, McSally ran for an open Senate seat but lost to Democrat Kyrsten Sinema. Following the election, Jon Kyl, who had been appointed by Arizona governor Doug Ducey to fill the Senate seat left vacant by the death of former Sen. John McCain, announced that he would be stepping down from that position, which prompted Ducey to tap McSally to fill that seat for the remainder of the term.
Colbert told Bakker that she led dozens of national prayer calls before the midterm elections during which she explicitly decreed that McSally would win and was very confused when that didn't happen.
"When we prayed for Arizona," she said, "we were praying for the Senate, we decreed and declared her senator. So after the election, everybody was like, 'What happened there? How did McSally lose?'"
"I was like, 'Just hold on, we know what God told us,'" Colbert said. "And when I heard last week that she got appointed as senator because Jon Kyl resigned, I sat there and I went, 'But God, but God.'"
"I was so upset over Arizona," responded an elated Lori Bakker. "That's so good."
