Rep. Louie Gohmert rejoiced over Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election last week, telling Virginia talk radio host Rob Schilling on Thursday that Election Day was “the brink for this country” but that Trump’s win saved us from “devastation” and “Christians being persecuted like had never happened in the history of this country.”
Gohmert told Schilling that “we can never, ever allow this country to come that close to immediately losing four of the first 10 rights, first 10 amendments that the founders gave us,” falsely claiming that Hillary Clinton supports an “international law that makes it a crime to say anything negative about Islam” and that the “10th Amendment means nothing” to her. He also attacked Clinton aide Huma Abedin and criticized Attorney General Loretta Lynch for her climate change stance, which he said disregards the fact that “all the cars in the industry we have still doesn’t account for the polar icecaps melting on Mars.”
“When I said we were on the brink,” he said, “we were on the brink of devastation, we were on the brink of losing freedoms, we were on the brink of Christians being persecuted like had never happened in the history of this country.”
Now, he said, “we’ve got a window” and “cannot lose this chance again, we have got to get ourselves back on track.”
