We couldn’t let the Obama presidency end without a final check-in with Joel Gilbert, the right-wing filmmaker behind the alternative birther theory that the president’s “real father” was labor activist Frank Marshall Davis.
Like former Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Gilbert is not letting the end of Obama’s presidency stop his “investigation” into what he contends is the president’s forged birth certificate. Gilbert, who unsuccessfully attempted to derail Obama’s reelection bid by distributing copies of his film “Dreams From My Real Father” to swing-state voters, spoke yesterday with Virginia radio host Rob Schilling about his hope that one day a DNA test will vindicate his theory about the president’s origins.
Gilbert explained to Schilling that under the Frank Marshall Davis scenario, Obama would be eligible to be president but “would have been unelectable” and thus he’s still a “fake president.”
“I think I’ve put together the correct narrative on Obama, that the Kenyan was a sham marriage to cover up his mother’s affair with Frank Marshall Davis,” he said, adding that it’s “bad enough that he lied to us about who his father was,” but that the real problem is that Davis “radicalized Obama with his anti-white, anti-American worldview.”
One day, he said, he might be vindicated by a DNA test, but Obama will probably just play dumb.
“If we can one day get a DNA test on Obama, it will obviously show his real father is Frank Marshall Davis,” Gilbert insisted, “and I think Obama will simply say, ‘Wow, oh my God, you could have knocked me over with a feather when I heard that.’ So he’ll continue to play the story that he’s built his whole life that he’s this street kid from Hawaii who was subject to racial discrimination. And, you know, it’s a whole fantasy world that he’s built. And, unfortunately, if not for the media propagating his story, we would not have suffered these eight years.”
While Gilbert may not ever get the DNA test, he can at least know that the incoming president is a fellow birther conspiracy theorist.
