Jesse Lee Peterson: The Apostle's Creed 'Is Not a Christian Thing to be Reciting'

President Trump was widely mocked for standing silently while the entire congregation attending the funeral of President George H.W. Bush recited the Apostle's Creed earlier this week, but right-wing radio host Jesse Lee Peterson is defending Trump by asserting that the creed is nothing but made up nonsense recited by phony Christians.

Peterson, who is a pastor of a church in California, kicked off his radio show yesterday by asserting that he had never even heard of the Apostle's Creed until this week—despite the fact that it has been widely used by many Christian denominations as a statement of the central tenets of the faith for more than a thousand years—and praising Trump for refusing to cite that "mess."

"I've got to admit, this is the first time I've ever hear of the Apostle's Creed," Peterson said. "This is another reason why I say Christianity is fake now. It's all intellectual. It's not from the heart any more."

"I've never heard of the Apostle's Creed," he added. "What in the world is that? Who made that up? It's not a Christian thing to be reciting. It's a phony act."

Peterson went on to play a clip of Trump standing silently while Bishop Michael Curry, whom Peterson dismissed as "a phony bishop," led the congregation in reciting the Apostle's Creed during the funeral service.

"That's all mess," Peterson responded following the clip. "That ain't got nothing to do with nothing. No wonder President Trump didn't read that."
