Jerome Corsi, former Infowars Washington bureau chief, has been subpoenaed in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into possible collusion between President Trump’s campaign staff and Russian officials.
Maggie Haberman at The New York Times reports that Corsi has been subpoenaed to testify before a grand jury on Friday, where he is expected to be asked about his discussions with GOP dirty trickster Roger Stone, a longtime confidant of Trump who served as a campaign adviser. Corsi’s lawyer told Haberman that Corsi “fully intends to comply with the subpoena.” From The Times:
Mr. Corsi, who has worked with the conspiracy theorist Alex Jones on his Infowars operation, has dealt with Mr. Stone on and off for years. Mr. Corsi was also one of the people whom President Trump, before he was a candidate, contacted for information about former President Barack Obama’s birth certificate in pressing the false claim that Mr. Obama was not born in the United States.
Mr. Corsi’s name came up when federal agents stopped and detained a professor and author, Ted Malloch, at a Boston airport last March. Mr. Malloch told NBC at the time that, among other questions, federal investigators asked him about Mr. Stone, whom he had met a handful of times, about WikiLeaks and about Mr. Corsi, who had helped edit one of his books.
In March, we were first to report that Corsi challenged Mueller to a fight behind the Department of Justice. During an episode of “The Alex Jones Show” hosted by his then-boss, Corsi grew increasingly upset at Mueller, telling Jones that he wanted to tell Mueller, “Let’s go out in the backyard of the Justice Department. You’ve got to have some—let’s duke it out. I mean, you want to behave like a thug? You want to behave like that? Well, this is what you deserve. Let’s duke it out. You’re finished. You’re a hack. The whole investigation is a criminal set-up.”
Corsi’s current narrative—and the subject of his latest book—supposes that covert forces within the Trump administration are systemically destroying the so-called “deep state” in which, Corsi believes, Mueller is a key figure.
Haberman also reported that Corsi no longer works for Infowars.
