The latest “special report” from the prayer warriors at Intercessors for America is an exemplar of the pro-Trump propaganda that pours from conservative Christian airwaves, organizations, and websites.
Consider the report’s false characterization of the Mueller report, which documented Russian attacks on the U.S. election, as well as numerous contacts between Russian agents and members of Team Trump, and multiple attempts to obstruct the special counsel’s investigation:
The Mueller report was delivered to the Justice Department on March 22, where it was summarized for the public in a four-page brief. It outlined the findings—or lack of any findings—of obstruction or collusion with Russian agents by President Trump. What happened next was shocking. Instead of relief from no findings of foul play, the conclusive findings failed to appease the partisans in Congress or the liberal media. It set off a frenzy of continued hearings and plans to disregard the result of the 2-year investigation, and attempted to find a way—some way— to charge the President.
A banner headline urges, “Pray as the Justice Department gets to the bottom of the false narrative of the Russia hoax. Who initiated it? Who broke the law? Will they be held accountable? Will there be justice?”
The report then gets specific, identifying four leaders it says “are relentlessly pursuing charges—any charges—against the President for partisan reasons” and urges people to pray that they “would be thwarted.” They are Reps. Jerrold Nadler, Adam Schiff and Elijah Cummings and New York Attorney General Letitia James.
In contrast, the report identifies and seeks prayers of protection for five people it says are pursuing the truth “when many aren’t even looking for it”: Attorney General William Barr, Rep. Devin Nunes, U.S. Attorney John Durham, activist Tom Fitton of Judicial Watch, and Fox News contributor Sara Carter, using these words:
Pray for protection for each of them as they uncover those who were in the shadows pulling strings to implicate the President. Pray that justice would be served, and those in our government who assisted in these false charges would be removed from their positions.
