Heritage Foundation fellow Hans von Spakovsky, a member of President Trump’s “election integrity” commission, speculated yesterday that a jury in California may have acquitted the undocumented immigrant accused of killing Kate Steinle because the jury was drawn from faulty voter rolls and contained “people who weren’t U.S. citizens.”
“There’s no question that there are thousands, if not tens of thousands, of noncitizens on the voter rolls in California,” von Spakovsky told Florida radio host Joyce Kaufman. “And, you know, I have to wonder like you do, did they call the jury pool from the list of registered voters, because it’s very possible that there were people who weren’t U.S. citizens on that jury.”
Kaufman agreed, noting that the jury contained three people whom news reports identified as immigrants. They wouldn’t have been identified as immigrants, she said, unless they were not only noncitizens but also undocumented.
