Former White House adviser Sebastian Gorka said yesterday that white supremacists are “not a serious threat” in America, but rather that any “rising tendency toward political violence” is found “on the left.”
Discussing a petition written by a pro-Trump troll to designate Antifa as a terrorist group, Gorka told Breitbart radio host Raheem Kassam that Antifa is part of the “normalization of violence on the left” that is a greater threat than white supremacist groups.
“Let’s not get lost in the historic details,” he said. “The KKK, white supremacists, neo-Nazis, they’ve been around for a long, long time. They’re anathema to a democracy, they are to be expunged from normal discourse, but they’re not a serious threat. They’re small numbers.”
He went on to blame liberals for the assassination of five police officers in Dallas last year, the attempted assassination of Rep. Steve Scalise and other Republican congressmen in June and the stabbing attack on a Portland train this year by a man who was shouting anti-Muslim slurs and had once said on Facebook that he supported Bernie Sanders and Jill Stein before apparently changing his allegiance to Trump.
“If there is a rising tendency toward political violence here in America, it is on the left,” Gorka said, “and we have to deal with it as quickly as possible.”
Gorka similarly downplayed the risk of white supremacist violence just days before the violent white supremacist gathering in Charlottesville that left one counter-protester dead.
Gorka and Kassam also discussed reports that Trump is planning to end the DACA program for undocumented immigrants who arrived as children, saying that he had faith that the program would end as long as Trump adviser Stephen Miller is in the White House.
“I’m not worried,” he said. “As somebody who was in the White House a week and a half ago, you know, Stephen Miller, God bless Stephen Miller, as long as he’s in the building, this will be dealt with.”
