On a recent episode of his "Pray In Jesus Name" program, Religious Right activist Gordon Klingenschmitt revealed that he had lobbied the Trump administration to be named its ambassador-at-large for international religious freedom. Although Klingenschmitt didn’t get his “dream job,” he is now taking credit for Brownback’s confirmation, saying that an email blast to the "37,000 Christian activists" on his email list finally prompted the Senate to vote on Brownback’s nomination.
While speaking with fellow anti-LGBTQ activist Matt Barber, Klingenschmitt said, "After I left the Colorado legislature in December [of 2016], I was looking for jobs with the Trump administration and I actually floated my resume there and it would have been my dream job to be the United States ambassador for religious freedom."
While he didn't get the position, Klingenschmitt said that Brownback is "the most qualified guy in America" and was "the best nominee I could have picked" and took credit for getting Brownback confirmed.
"The Democrats blocked his nomination for six months," Klingenschmitt said. "All the Democrats opposed, until two weeks ago. I sent out an email blast to 37,000 Christian activists around America" urging them to call their senators and tell them to support Brownback's confirmation.
"I sent that email blast out on a Tuesday and by that Friday, they were scheduling and having that vote and we confirmed Sam Brownback," he said. "We forced the Senate, I think, to take that vote."
