On a recent episode of his "Pray In Jesus Name" program, Religious Right activist and Colorado state legislator Gordon Klingenschmitt compared Christian business owners in America who are not allowed to discriminate against LGBT customers to gay people who are being killed by ISIS.
Klingenschmitt spent a segment of his program discussing a case involving the owners of a Phoenix stationary company who violated a local nondiscrimination ordinance when they refused to print invitations for a gay couple’s wedding. He then dedicated the following segment to covering a report out of Syria that ISIS fighters had killed a man accused of being gay by throwing him off of a building.
Klingenschmitt then proceeded to directly compare the two incidents, saying that just as there are "religious police" in Syria who are persecuting gays,” so too are LGBT activists in America using "religious police" to persecute Christians.
"How is that any different?" he asked. "We have religious police here in America that are doing the same, on a lesser scale, to the Christians here in America that the Islamic State is doing to the homosexuals in Syria."
Appealing directly "to the homosexuals out there," Klingenschmitt asked why they won't "treat the Christian couple in Phoenix as if they ought to have religious freedom instead of hiring religious police to metaphorically throw them off a roof? You don't like it when it's done to you, so why are you doing it to others?"
