Last week, as the collapse loomed of another Republican effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act, Rep. Mo Brooks of Alabama joined Todd Starnes on his Fox News Radio program to urge Republican voters to pressure members of Congress to keep their promises to repeal the law, saying that representatives needed to hear from those “who believe in self-sufficiency, who believe in liberty and freedom and the consequences of making bad decisions.”
Brooks told Starnes that Republicans are “not delivering on our campaign promises” of building a border wall and ending Obamacare.
“And for whatever reason,” he said, “the liberals in the Republican House conference and the liberals in the Republican Senate conference seem to have become hesitant in fulfilling that campaign promise of a total repeal of Obamacare. I wish it was different, I understand the pressure that they feel, we’ve seen the success of the Indivisible, the Resist, the Bernie Sanders elements who all seem to want everything that somebody else pays for and have been very vocal at town hall meetings and put pressure on some of our elected leaders.”
He added that “we need those of us who believe in self-sufficiency, who believe in liberty and freedom and the consequences of making bad decisions” to fight just as hard to reach their members of Congress on repealing the health law.
The Senate repeal bill was projected to cause 22 million people to lose their health insurance, and would have especially hurt seniors and people with disabilities.
Brooks has previously said that people who lead “good lives” should be able to access less expensive insurance policies. In a local TV news interview in May, he made the same “bad decisions” point about health care coverage, saying that he believes “in the consequences of making bad decisions, because those consequences of bad decisions are what teaches us to make better decisions in the future.”
