Last Thursday, ahead of Hillary Clinton's speech at the Democratic National Convention, the American Pastors Network dedicated its "Stand in the Gap" radio program to discussing the question of whether it is "biblical to have women in positions of government."
Gary Dull, an APN board member and head of the Pennsylvania Pastors Network, said on the program that women serving in positions of political leadership is a sign that a society is "spiritually rotten" and under the judgment of God.
Citing Isaiah 3, especially verse 12, which says that "youths oppress my people, women rule over them" when a nation is under judgment, Dull proclaimed that "what we see is that the condition in that nation in that particular period of time was very, very spiritually rotten and whether that was the cause for women leading them or that itself brought on the wickedness within the nation is to be debated, but it certainly does at least imply that maybe women should not be in high political positions."
Dull went on to cite 1 Timothy 2, which he says "establishes a pattern" in the Bible that women are not to have authority over men.
"In God's line of authority," he said, "it seems very clear in the scripture that a woman should not be in authority over men, which would limit a woman from being the president of the United States of America or even a queen of some other particular nation."
