Ken Blackwell, a senior fellow at the Family Research Council who worked on domestic policy issues for President Trump’s transition team, linked the recent mass shooting at a Florida high school to legal abortion in a radio interview on Monday, saying that both are symptoms of “a cultural problem where we have devalued innocent human life.”
“What is it that’s causing a lot of this violence, if not most of it?” Eben Fowler, who was guest-hosting the FRC’s “Washington Watch,” asked Blackwell.
“You know, we have a cultural problem where we have devalued innocent human life, and it can be seen in the millions upon millions of abortions that have taken place in our country merely because the unborn baby is not wanted,” Blackwell said. “So an unwanted baby can have its life taken away, an innocent baby.”
He added that “a lot of people have a lot of associated problems that are related to the breakdown of the family and the breakup of the family.”
“So you couple that with government’s efforts, or at least the efforts of the left, to run God and faith out of the public square, and we can begin to see the weakening of our culture through the devaluing of innocent life,” he added.
Blackwell linked a previous mass shooting to “the attack on natural marriage and the family,” saying that those who are “blaming the Second Amendment” are “avoiding talking about what is at the root cause of the problem.”
