A number of far-right websites have been breathlessly reporting on what they’re calling the “purple revolution,” a movement that they say is orchestrated by George Soros (of course) to try to sway today’s Electoral College vote and undermine Donald Trump’s presidency. They point specifically to Hillary and Bill Clinton’s decision to each wear purple to Hillary Clinton’s concession speech, which has been widely interpreted by the mainstream media as a call to unity between red and blue America.
The Center for Security Policy’s Frank Gaffney picked up on this rumor in his “Secure Freedom Minute” broadcast this morning, warning that if Trump is indeed chosen by the Electoral College today, “the hard-left and their assorted allies—the Black Lives Matter crowd, the Islamists and many in the press" will "ratchet up their campaign to subvert the Trump administration.”
And included in this ominous “purple revolution,” Gaffney says, is President Obama : “President Obama wore purple at his end-of-year press conference. Look for him to community organize its revolution in 2017.”
(For the record, Obama wore blue to the press conference, and spoke of helping Trump transition into the White House.)
Today, what its perpetrators hope to brand the “purple revolution” will move from their concerted, weeks-long effort to undermine Donald Trump’s incipient presidency to preventing it outright. Their hope is to secure enough defections from so-called faithless electors to prevent a Trump victory in the Electoral College. That seems unlikely to happen, but when it doesn’t expect those on the hard-left and their assorted allies—the Black Lives Matter crowd, the Islamists and many in the press—to ratchet up their campaign to subvert the Trump administration.
Take, for example, their sudden, highly selective concern about Vladimir Putin’s aggressiveness. Mr. Trump’s critics vehemently denounce the Kremlin despot for allegedly cyber-helping elect our next president, but not Putin’s ominous nuclear buildup and threats. President Obama wore purple at his end-of-year press conference. Look for him to community organize its revolution in 2017.
