For $150, Glenn Beck Will Help Women Realize Their God-Given Right 'To Feel Pretty'

Glenn Beck took to his Facebook page this morning to announce the release of a new series of denim jeans and jackets from his 1791 clothing line and, in typical Beck fashion, he managed to do so in pretty much the most sanctimonious and self-aggrandizing way imaginable.

Beck explained that whenever he used to go shopping with his daughters, they could never find clothes that fit them properly and, as a result, he "vowed if I ever had a chance I would start a fashion line that was cool, hip, and great quality that would come in sizes that would fit."

Now that day has come and Beck is finally able to help the women of the world realize their "fundamental God given rights" to "feel pretty" and it is all thanks to "the power of a dads [sic] love for his daughter":

Today I make good on that promise. 1791 is proud to announce our new line of women's Denim. We begin with denim jacket and jeans.

They were designed for and tested on all the girls in my life. It has taken us almost two years to get the design just right.

I am proud that finally I can rest knowing any dad who feels the way I do about the most beautiful girl ever born, my daughter, will be able to feel that way when she slips into her favorite jeans, blouse and jacket.

My wife who is a little more like the current runway models and my daughter who is more classic both can wear and love their new 1791s.

I kind of think it is one of those fundamental God given rights. To feel pretty.

Because you are.

As we grow so will our selection and sizes because it is time we celebrate real diversity. After all, God made us different colors, shapes and sizes.

Please check out the beginning of our new line of women's clothing at 1791.com and see what the power of a dads love for his daughter can build.

Unfortunately for Beck, his announcement is not quite being met with the chorus of accolades that he apparently expected, but rather comment after comment from fans wondering exactly how they are supposed to be able to afford his new $150 jeans:

  • These are great! But most women can't afford a $150 pair of jeans
  • I wish you had made them more affordable!!! I can't spend $300 on 2 pairs of jeans when I spend that much every season for clothes for my family of 4.
  • That's a nice story and a nice idea, but I wonder if Glenn could have paid $160 for a single pair of jeans back then? Ouch. I think you've lost touch with what it's like to live on the edge in modern day middle-income America. If I bought a pair of your jeans, if have to use this week's grocery $. And then some. Sigh.
  • Remember when you weren't rich or famous? Yeah, that describes your fan base.
  • You're kidding right? $170 for a pair of jeans? $76 for a flannel shirt? NO ONE I know can afford to shop there. We are all working stiffs with mortgages and kids and car payments; we work most days from 7-5 and Saturdays too.
  • Oh wow, a pair of jeans that comprises my grocery budget for the week. Not cool. While they are probably awesome, not for poor folk like me, fat or not.
  • These would be great if they were actually affordable to working-class families. I applaud your determination and the reason why this clothing line started, but these are not jeans that "real" people can afford. $170 for a pair of jeans is nothing to the Hollywood elite, but a good chunk of a working man's (or woman's) paycheck better spent on food for the family. Great quality or not, the average American will not be buying these.
  • I heard you talking about them on the radio. I went to the web site and was excited to buy a pair. Than I saw the price. $ 150.00 for middle class women is to expensive for me. I wish I could have ordered a pair. Lower the price please so that normal people can purchase a pair.
  • LOVE the idea, but $150 for a pair of jeans? NOPE!
  • You had great things to say.......BUT........for the most part, your audience can't afford these clothes! I thought you were in touch?!
  • ONE pair of jeans ($150), ONE flannel shirt ($90), and ONE T-shirt ($24) = $264 (plus tax). Get real.
