Joseph Farah, the editor of WorldNetDaily, is outraged that President Obama is a fan of the Netflix series “House of Cards,” and is particularly scandalized by the president’s joking observation that the show’s ruthless lead character, House Majority Whip Francis Underwood, is “getting a lot of stuff done.”
Anyone who actually watched the president’s comments could tell that he was clearly joking, but Farah claims that Obama is “shamelessly promoting” Underwood’s corrupt behavior and sees him as a “role model.”
“Is it appropriate, responsible and thoughtful for a president of the United States to champion blackmail, extortion, threats, intimidation, lies, provocation and murder as the best way to do business in Washington?” Farah asks in his column today. “He’s not even the least bit self-conscious about proclaiming his admiration for a character who is rotten to the core.”
We can only imagine how much fun it is to watch TV with Farah.
You can tell a lot about people by what they watch on television.
They say you are what you eat. It’s also true that what you choose to consume with the eye says much about your soul.
…
It’s about how corruption is the key to getting things done in Washington.
It’s also explicitly pornographic. You won’t see a single episode that doesn’t include the most ridiculous examples of gratuitous sex, meant only to appeal to the prurient interest of voyeurs.
All that would be disturbing, given the occupant of the White House has become a public promoter of the show. But it’s much worse than that.
…
So I have to ask myself: What is Barack Obama doing promoting this show? Why is he giving interviews saying he wishes things could be done the way Frank Underwood does them? Is it appropriate, responsible and thoughtful for a president of the United States to champion blackmail, extortion, threats, intimidation, lies, provocation and murder as the best way to do business in Washington?
…
But Obama is shamelessly promoting it without any caveats whatsoever.
Worse yet, he is out there suggesting Frank Underwood – a murderer – is a role model for him.
…
Make no mistake about it if you haven’t watched the first season of “House of Cards”: Obama has expressed admiration for a character who is a ruthless thug – a godfather-style figure who will use any means necessary to get his way.
Of course, that character is a liberal Democrat – so it’s OK.
None of this surprises me.
Obama is not a virtuous man of character. We know that after five years in office. But he’s not even the least bit self-conscious about proclaiming his admiration for a character who is rotten to the core – a cheater, an adulterer, one who even plans and executes the murder of a fellow member of Congress.
He’s setting a great example for the nation, isn’t he? He’s really raising the bar on expectations of the next generation, isn’t he? Is he going to recommend the show to his own children, even as he publicly extols it to the entire nation without any reservations?
We’ve come a long way since George Washington, haven’t we?
